ONLINE COUNSELLING

Online counselling is becoming increasingly popular and being the forward-thinking organization that we are, we are pleased to offer this option to meet the diverse needs of our clients. This type of counselling can be done via a computer, tablet and smartphone using Skype, text or voice.  If you are wondering whether online counselling is for you, we have put together some of the benefits below to help you decide.

Benefits of online counselling

First and foremost, online counselling is helpful for individuals with a disability.  These clients may find it hard to travel to our office every week so affording them the ability to connect remotely minimizes the barriers that they face while accessing help.  In addition, some individuals may not have access to transportation to commute to our office because they live in a remote location.  Online counselling can be a welcomed alternative in this situation also.

In addition, online counselling can be highly beneficial for individuals who experience social awkwardness or those who may find it hard to express themselves openly in the presence of another person.  These individuals may feel less comfortable talking to a counsellor face-to-face but may be willing to text or message them because these alternatives minimize their anxiety.

Another key benefit of online counselling is that it offers a greater level of flexibility than other counselling methods.  This is especially important for individuals who do not work a traditional 9 to 5 shift and need to talk to a counsellor. With this online option, these individuals are able to make an appointment at their convenience.

Finally, there’s something intimate about communicating with a counsellor in the privacy of one’s own home and online counselling allows clients to do so. With a traditional in-office visit, the client is on the counsellor’s “turf” which can feel quite intimidating for some. Online counselling is, therefore, an excellent alternative because it allows the client to choose the surroundings, and they are able to control when and how they get the help they need.
